Itinerary

Visit Wells
Wells is England’s smallest city and takes its name from the local freshwater springs which ‘well’ up in the grounds of the moated Bishop’s Palace. The glorious Early Gothic Cathedral is considered by many to be the finest in the country. Walk through the historic Marketplace and marvel at the oldest residential street in Europe, which you will have almost to yourself. You have the option of exploring the award winning Bishop’s Palace gardens – a haven of tranquility.

Visit Glastonbury
Glastonbury is a place where ancient folklore and Arthurian legends all merge. A former market town turned New Age hangout full of quirky eclectic shops, where alternative is the norm. Visit the romantic ruined Abbey, reputed to be the burial place of King Arthur and also the legendary birthplace of Christianity in England. Enjoy a stroll through the unique centre, or climb the Tor for breathtaking views.

The best tour I've ever booked. Glastonbury is unique, in a class by itself, filled with fascinating history and lore. Wells is charming as well, hinting at what the ruins as Glastonbury Abbey looked like, but nothing compares to Glastonbury. Our guide Matt kept us enthralled the entire day with information and humor.

Had a wonderful time on this private tour with Matthias and cannot recommend this tour enough. I had been to the Cotswolds a few times already so I knew I wanted to see another part of the countryside - and Wells did not disappoint. It was the perfect quintessential small-town, authentic, quaint but majestic city (it is in fact the smallest city in England) and it was amazing to visit on market day. After Wells and a great lunch with Matthias, we ventured to Glastonbury - definitely quite different from Wells. We enjoyed the serenity of the cathedral grounds and ruins… If you are looking for a private tour guide, book Matthias! He was professional, very conversational and made you feel instantly comfortable in his company - plus a good sense of humor!

Matt was both informative and entertaining. As for the sights, amazing. I've never been to a place like either Glastonbury or Wells. Quaint, stuffed to the brim with history and lore, and utterly fascinating, both past and present. The best tour I've ever booked.

We were a group of 5 ladies taking the sites in Somerset and Bath. Matthias is a perfect guide. He has a wealth of knowledge and took great care of us. And even sang a beautiful song in front of Glastonbury Abbey thorn tree. Wells cathedral is not to be missed. The architecture is spectacular and we even got to hear the bells ring and watch its famous clock come to life.
